RIP Ruth Bader Ginsburg

I was saddened to hear the news on the radio this morning on the passing away of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The world’s first rockstar level, international celebrity Supreme Court Justice of the USA.

Why should we care as Brits about a former Justice of another country? RBG was a lifelong trailblazing feminist and role model simply by being herself. She broke boundaries through her intellect, tenacity and dedication to law, equality and justice for the often under-represented in society. If you don’t know who she was until today I’d recommend watching the Netflix documentary all about her which captures her wit in addition to her life story.

RBG had desperately wanted to live until the election of the next president of the USA as she was one of four liberal judges at the Supreme Court. Women’s reproductive rights have already been rolled back in much of the USA and I dread what the Republicans will do now. Once again, it doesn’t directly impact us in the UK but how can we not empathise with the potential further rolling back of women’s rights?
