Work from home tips: Ready, set, zoom!

Working from home looks set to stay at least for the rest of 2020 so I thought I’d share some work from home tips including one of my secret weapons for online meetings.

Online meetings that include video are thankfully rare for me, however, I often do video clips for social media. Being on camera is daunting and without studio tv lighting most of us look like we need more sleep and/or more make up. I would recommend the following tips to help you look good on camera:

  1. Find a source of natural lighting. Obviously this usually means sitting in front of a window or outdoors.

  2. Sometimes natural lighting isn’t enough and you need a boost, especially as we head towards Autumn and Winter. I bought a mobile phone holder with a light source and adjustable arms that you can plug into your laptop or USB plug to boost the light around you and help you look at least alive and at most healthy and human. I bought my gadget from ebay but you can google it to find another source. The light I bought has three settings that you can flight through which I find quite handy.

  3. If you have a screen protector, draw a circle around the camera of your phone so you remember to look at the camera and not at yourself as this can be offputting.

  4. Use your mobile phone holder to set the camera at eye level. If you’re using a laptop experts recommend propping it up on books or magazines again to raise the level of the camera.

  5. Powder your face, especially your T zone to reduce shine.

  6. Download and play You’re So Vain…bet you think this meeting’s about you, don’t you?

Of course it’s all about you!
