Hooray for Joe Biden & Kamala Harris
Intelligence and competence are back in fashion thanks to Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and the US electorate.
Perhaps it’s because we are working from home, this is the first time I actually watched an inauguration. I was ecstatic when Barak Obama won in 2008 nevertheless I felt content reading about it and watching clips on the news after the event. The attack on Capitol Hill, however, turned a stale ceremony into a must-see thriller.
Relief dawned with an intelligent, competent and empathetic administration that included no hateful, harmful speeches or spectacle but poems and statements of intent to return to the global stage. And my goodness we need it. Like a slow motion car crash since the election result was confirmed in November, we watched the Republican party and Donald Trump jump up and down like Rumplestiltskin while the Joe Biden calmly appointed staff to head his administration’s departments.
Joe Biden and the old normal in politics have been described as boring by political journalists on and off tv and radio. The media that I consume have liberal values but they can’t get over how good Donald Trump has been for viewer numbers and clicks. They don’t agree with him but they want to profit from his rash performance and shocking values. I can’t decide what is uglier.
A closing reflection, that was one big bible. It’s great to have a family heirloom and it must have meant a lot but I’d love to know more about Jill Biden’s bicep workout. That’s the kind of click bait I’m looking forward to.
