Winter warmers: ginger tea

Baby it’s cold outside! I’m a caffeine addict and in Winter who doesn’t reach for a hot drink? A trick I learned from my friends in India was to add fresh ginger to tea.

Indian masala chai is unbeatable but this Winter warmer is wonderful for a frangrant change and it has health benefits too.

Ginger tea or adrak chai in Hindi is consumed in the Winter months as it naturally causes the body to heat up from the inside, nice! In addition to smelling divine, fresh ginger adds a lovely warm flavour and depth to tea.

The easiest way to add fresh ginger to your tea is to add a few slices to your pre-made cup of milky (soya milk for me please) tea. Remember to peel the skin off. Another method is to grate some fresh ginger into your tea but this method requires straining before you drink.

Other benefits of drinking ginger tea include:

Boosting your immune system, helping to relieve nausea, reduce inflammation and it may even help imrove blood circulation and help to relive stress. My favourite added benefit that should be noted is that ginger tea can help to improve digestion and therefore reduce bloating after eating too much. Sound like anyone you know?

Enjoy!
