Winter warmers part 2: rum punch from Delhi Gymkhana Club

When I used to travel to India in Winter, no trip would be complete without evenings of laughter and chit chat at the Delhi Gymkhana Club over several glasses of delicious hot rum punch.

Alas, like the rest of us, I have been home bound and found myself craving this delicious drink as the cold evenings closed in. It’s an easy drink to recreate although, unlike the ginger tea recommendation, I can’t claim it has any health benefits other than giving you a glass of glowing, spice-fragranced drink of joy.

Sorry to be precious, however, the presentation of this drink really does add to the joy and wow factor therefore I do recommend using heat resistant brandy glasses or clear glass mugs. Bodum design stylish ones, click here. Do be careful, not all glassware is heat resistant.

Ingredients:

Captain Morgan dark spiced rum

Cardamom pods

Cinnamon sticks

Cloves

Fresh segments of lemon or lime, washed and cut but retaining the peel

Brown sugar

Hot water

Method:

Pour a single shot of rum (or more!) into your heat resistant glass, add the hot water, add a few cardamom pods, cloves and a reasonable piece of cinnamon stick. Add the slice of lemon and sugar to taste.

Sit back, inhale the spices and enjoy!
